Insights: News Releases Kilpatrick Townsend Honored for Pro Bono Work at Atlanta Bar Association’s “Celebrating Service” Event

Jenn Deal and Renae Wainwright Selected as “Volunteers of the Year”

ATLANTA (November 1) Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton was recognized by the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyer Foundation (AVLF) as the Safe and Stable Homes Firm of the Year at the Atlanta Bar Association’s Celebrating Service awards luncheon on October 19. The annual event honors Atlanta attorneys and law firms for their pro bono work and the volunteer hours they devote to helping people in need seek justice.

The firm was honored for its strong turnout for the AVLF’s innovative Standing With Our Neighbors project, which partners with schools and other community resources to improve housing stability in low-income neighborhoods. Kilpatrick Townsend attorneys work with tenants and landlords to improve living conditions and reduce evictions, which in turn improves school attendance and performance of the children in those properties.

“If every law firm paid as much attention to pro bono as Kilpatrick Townsend, our city’s justice gap would quickly be eradicated,” said AVLF’s Erik Provitt, who presented the award.

In addition to the firm’s award, Kilpatrick Townsend’s Jennifer (Jenn) Fairbairn Deal won the AVLF’s Safe Families Office Volunteer of the Year. In her almost seven years volunteering with the Safe Families Office at Fulton County Superior Courthouse, she’s taken more than 20 cases to help domestic violence. Kilpatrick Townsend’s Renae Wainwright was also recognized by the Atlanta Legal Aid Society as Volunteer of the Year for her work on complex adoption cases.

“We are truly grateful to be honored by the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society,” said partner Tamara Serwer Caldas, who heads Kilpatrick Townsend’s pro bono program. “Making sure that low-income clients, community groups and nonprofit organizations receive quality legal help is a commitment we take very seriously.”
