Insights: News Nicole Medrozo Named Georgia Appleseed Volunteer of the Year

On June 25, Georgia Appleseed recognized KT Senior Litigation Attorney Nicole Medrozo as its “Volunteer of the Year” at its annual Spellbound for Justice event. Nicole won the award for her legal research, updating Georgia Appleseed’s “Student Tribunals: Assessment of School Discipline in Georgia” report used by pro bono attorneys in their representation of foster care children facing long-term suspensions or expulsions.

In its tribunal, Georgia Appleseed advocates for local school systems to reduce exclusionary discipline and increase the use of evidence-based practices to enable all students to succeed in school. As a result of her work, Nicole has now begun to represent foster care children in disciplinary tribunals.
