Eric Gayan is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a wide variety of technologies, including the mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, computer, digital, software, medical device, energy, materials, and industrial arts. He has counseled a broad range of domestic and international clients, from individual inventors and start-ups to Fortune and Global 100 corporations.

Eric has directed numerous U.S. post-grant proceedings, including reexamination and inter partes review actions, appeared before the patent board in Washington, D.C., and also appeared with foreign counsel before the European Patent Office in Munich, Germany with respect to European opposition proceedings. He regularly prepares patentability, infringement, validity, and design around opinions.

Eric’s patent litigation practice includes strategy development, motion practice, claims construction, experts selection and report preparation, and general management and support. He also engages in settlement negotiations involving pre-litigation infringement claims and regularly prepares agreements relating to the licensing, sale, acquisition, and development of intellectual property.

Prior to joining the firm, Eric was a partner at an intellectual property law firm based in Dublin, Ohio where he practiced for more than 23 years and focused on U.S. and foreign patent and trademark matters. Previously, Eric attended an evening J.D. program while maintaining full-time employment as a Mechanical/Project Engineer in the automobile plastics department of a major automobile manufacturer in Marysville, Ohio where he was responsible for its project management, budgeting and design, construction, and integration of automated/robotic machinery and work cells for plastic injection molding.
