Overview

Emily Yates focuses her practice on trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement. Emily’s experience includes all aspects of trademark protection, from selection of an available trademark with an eye on risk tolerance, to complex international prosecution and foreign and domestic disputes. She also counsels clients on a wide range of domestic enforcement issues, including proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

While attending law school, Emily worked with the firm as a summer associate in 2019 and 2020. She also served as an intern in the Consumer Protection Branch of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., focusing on disputes under federal laws such as the Food Drug and Cosmetics Act.

Prior to attending law school, Emily was an intern in the Crisis Unit of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Hillsborough, North Carolina where she assisted in the filing of 50B domestic violence protective orders. While attending Davidson College, Emily served as an office intern in the Orange County Rape Crisis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and a summer intern at a boutique law firm in Livingston, New Jersey in 2015 and 2016.

Emily remains passionate about using the law to protect those who have experienced gendered violence, and continues to focus her pro bono practice in this area. In 2022, she was named to the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, which recognizes the contributions of those D.C. Bar members who donated 50 hours or more of pro bono service during the previous calendar year.
