NEW YORK (April 13) -- Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Jeff Reed will be a featured speaker at the Dallas Chapter of the Tax Executives Institute 2016 State Tax School. The conference will take place Wednesday, April 20, at the Cityplace Conference Center in Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Reed will speak at a session entitled “Internet and Interstate Commerce: Economic Nexus.” The session will cover jurisdictional standards for sales and business activity taxes. Testa case pending at the Ohio Supreme Court, Kennedy’s concurrence in Direct Marketing Assn. v. Brohl, South Dakota’s sales tax economic nexus statute and Alabama’s attempt to impose sales tax economic nexus by regulation. Strategies for handling these evolving and potentially constitutionally unsound nexus standards will also discussed.

Mr. Reed chairs the firm’s State and Local Tax Practice. He represents businesses and individuals in state tax controversies, and advises about the state and local tax consequences of complex transactions. Mr. Reed has represented clients in state tax controversy matters in over thirty state and local tax jurisdictions. He received widespread acclaim for arguing and winning the closely-watched IT USA, Inc. case before the New York Tax Appeals Tribunal.
