Insights: News Releases Kilpatrick Townsend Expands Native American Affairs Team in Washington, D.C. with the Addition of Krystalyn Kinsel

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 23) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today the addition of Krystalyn Kinsel to the firm’s Washington, DC office. Ms. Kinsel, a member of the Navajo Nation, joins the firm as an associate on the Native American Affairs Team in the firm’s Litigation Department.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Kinsel worked as a trial attorney in the Attorney General Honors Program of the Natural Resources Section of the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where she defended the United States in all aspects of civil litigation involving the Fifth Amendment, the Tucker Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act. She is a recipient of the United States Department of Justice’s 2017 Outstanding Performance Rating Award.

Ms. Kinsel earned her J.D. from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where she also received an Indian Legal Certificate. While attending law school, she served as a legal extern in the Chambers of the Honorable Susan R. Bolton in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and as a legal extern in the Office of Tribal Justice in the United States Department of Justice. Ms. Kinsel also practiced as a student attorney in the Ak-Chin Indian Tribal Court and the Gila River Indian Community Court.

Prior to and while attending her first year of law school, Ms. Kinsel was a Legislative Associate and National Coordinator of Native Vote for the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) in Washington, D.C. where she advocated on behalf of tribal governments by advising Congress and the Administration on national legislation in the areas of labor, welfare, health, and education. She also coordinated Native Vote, a national campaign providing voter registration and election protection assistance to tribes.

Ms. Kinsel received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Arizona, cum laude. Following her undergraduate education, she was an investigative intern in the Office of Inspector General at the National Science Foundation (NSF) where she assisted in special examinations of programs and operations at the NSF or funded by the NSF.
