Insights: News Releases Kilpatrick Townsend Named One of Facebook’s Diversity Champion Firms for Second Year in a Row
ATLANTA (June 15) - Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton client Facebook once again recognized the firm for its diversity and inclusion efforts. Kilpatrick Townsend is one of four finalists for the second annual Facebook Diversity Champion Award. Kilpatrick Townsend is being recognized for its dedication to diversity as exemplified by how the firm staffs its Facebook matters, provides leadership opportunities for its attorneys, and for having a robust diversity program. Kilpatrick Townsend was Facebook’s inaugural Diversity Champion in 2019 and is the only firm who has received top rankings two years in a row.
“We are proud of our partnership with Facebook,” said Wab Kadaba, Kilpatrick Townsend's Intellectual Property Department Chair. “The Firm has a long history of embracing diversity and inclusion and my own experience is a testament to that commitment. This recognition is personal not only because it comes from such an important client but it is in affirmation of the firm’s core values.”
The Facebook Diversity Champion Award was presented by Jennifer Newstead, Johanna Ravelo, and Akshay Verma during Facebook’s Virtual Legal Diversity Champion Award Ceremony on June 11.
Facebook continues to strengthen their partnership with Kilpatrick Townsend via three joint initiatives aimed at addressing the lack of diversity in the attorney pipeline, a significant challenge in the legal industry. Together, Facebook and Kilpatrick collaborate to both boost the pipeline of diverse lawyers and to promote the advancement of diverse lawyers in the law firm partnership ranks:
- “Legal Scholars Program” which provides incoming law students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the law with the tools necessary to succeed in law school through a one and a half-day workshop. This program will launch in the Bay Area in July 2020.
- “Summer Associate Program” for diverse students in the summer between their first and second years of law school to intern at Kilpatrick Townsend and collaborate with Facebook on impactful matters.
- “Leadership Connections Program” for diverse mid-level and senior Kilpatrick Townsend associates, to help position them for promotion to leadership roles by facilitating networking and work experience with Facebook attorneys.
