Overview

Since 1975, Ken Allen has served clients worldwide from the legacy Townsend firm’s Silicon Valley offices, focusing his practice on high technology patent prosecution and counseling for entrepreneurs and emerging companies. For many years Mr. Allen chaired Townsend’s partner nominating committee. Mr. Allen has represented U.S. and international clients in procuring hundreds of patents in telecommunications, networking, MEMS, wireless systems, miniature test systems, satellite communication and satellite control systems, nonlinear optics, lasers, medical instrumentation, medical devices, speech recognition, character recognition, artificial intelligence, expert systems, computer architecture, PV solar, radar, microwave systems, digital signal processing and software based systems and methodologies, as well as fundamental inventions of applied physics. Mr. Allen’s articles on technology and patent law have been in newspapers and professional magazines, including IEEE Spectrum, IEEE Transactions on Professional Communications and Intellectual Property Today.

Mr. Allen is internationally known and has been recognized numerous times in Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World's Leading Patent Law Practitioners; as a Northern California "Super Lawyer" in Intellectual Property by Super Lawyers magazine; and as an "IP Star" by Managing Intellectual Property magazine published in the UK. Mr. Allen has held Martindale-Hubbell's AV® rating since 1986.

Mr. Allen and his wife did volunteer work in St. Petersburg, Russia, for two years, returning to California in March 2019.
