Commercial Litigation
Kurtis represents clients on a wide array of complex commercial matters both in court and in alternative dispute resolution. He has helped corporate clients win arbitrations and carry out litigation in numerous multi-million dollar policy holder coverage disputes and breach of contract actions. He has also supported clients tangled in third-party indemnity suits and conducted discovery for internal strategic assessments on their behalf. 

Appeals
Kurtis represents clients in state and federal appellate courts across the country, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has assisted his clients on appeals covering a broad array of subjects, ranging from ERISA policy coverage disputes and trademark infringement to state defamation and Native American protections under federal law. Kurtis also specializes in navigating the nuances of appellate litigation in Georgia state courts.

Energy
Kurtis has also represented solar energy clients in energy litigation proceedings. His work has ranged from assisting clients navigate the ever shifting regulations governing import of solar panels and modules to contending with force majeure, COVID-19, and global crises to working within existing contracts to contend with the ever rising costs of global shipping.

Government Regulation & International Trade
Kurtis represents both public entities and clients proceeding before public actors or challenging their agency actions. He has assisted clients through ongoing government investigations and has advised them on the nuances of state and municipal licensing regimes and administrative procedure, particularly in Georgia. 

He has advised clients on pending antidumping investigations and changes in regulations at the state, national, and international levels impacting the cost of performance of international trade contracts, particularly in the solar energy space. 

Education and Accolades 
Kurtis completed all of his education at Emory University. While in law school he served as a law clerk for a special assistant district attorney where he assisted in winning several criminal appeals. He also served as a law clerk for both The Restoring Religious Freedom Project and for the Center for Study of Law and Religion at Emory University. He was also an assistant managing editor of the Emory Journal of Law and Religion.

Prior to joining the firm, Kurtis clerked for two Georgia Supreme Court Justices and served the State of Georgia as an Assistant Attorney General as an Honors Fellow in the Solicitor General’s Office, representing the State in cases involving state and federal constitutional law, religious liberty, professional licensing, and environmental law. He was also counsel for a religious liberty non-profit advocacy organization focusing on critical issues of free speech and religious liberty.

Kurtis is a recipient of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) 2020 Supreme Court Best Brief Award for an Amicus Brief in Espinoza v. Montana. As a guest lecturer and scholar, Kurtis has been invited to present on law and religion at several international conferences.
