Overview

Ben Black is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on the prosecution and counseling of patent applications, primarily in the areas of electronics and software. He has experience with industries related to augmented/virtual reality, semiconductors, autonomous vehicles, AI, database systems, medical devices, consumer electronics, advanced signal processing, and network infrastructure.

Prior to joining the firm, Ben was an associate in the Irvine, California office of a national law firm in its Technology and Patent prosecution practices.

While attending University of Michigan Law School, Ben served as a student attorney in its Entrepreneurship Clinic and an intern in the University of Michigan Tech Transfer Office. He won Third Place in the 2019 and 2020 International Patent Drafting Competition hosted by the USPTO.

Before attending law school, Ben was an Engineering Intern at a full-service intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) provider in its Salt Lake City, Utah office where he collaborated with a team of engineers to create signal processing solutions using programmable circuits.

While attending Brigham Young University, Ben studied engineering abroad in Guangzhou, China.

Ben is fluent in Thai and knows enough Mandarin, Korean, and Spanish to be a little dangerous.
