Alexander Mallory (Hakikóx Walu Piga—“makes his way”) is a member in the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and focuses his practice on litigation, including federal Indian law matters.
Alexander has represented tribes and tribal entities in all stages of litigation before tribal, state, and federal courts. He regularly practices in the areas of tribal sovereign immunity, water rights, and employment and contractual disputes. He also advises tribes on treaty-rights issues and compliance with state and local laws. In addition to his litigation experience, Alexander maintains an active pro bono practice, sitting as a tribal judge for the Southwest Intertribal Court of Appeals.
Before joining Kilpatrick, Alexander clerked for the Honorable Diane J. Humetewa of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, where he assisted with various civil and criminal matters, including those taken by designation in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He also clerked for the Honorable Paul Nihoul at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. Previously, Alexander was an Honors Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program in Dallas-Fort Worth.
While attending law school, Alexander studied International Human Rights Law, Migration Law, and Global Administrative Law during the fall of 2018 at Bocconi University School of Law in Milan, Italy. He also clerked at three multinational law firms in Washington, D.C., San Diego, California, and Phoenix, Arizona. Alexander interned at the Maui Public Defender’s Office in Wailuku, Hawaii.
While attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Alexander was a Fellow at the Indian Law Resource Center in Helena, Montana. He was also a Gilman Scholar at Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic and studied at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey.
Alexander was recognized in 2026 as one of the “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” for Native American Law by The Best Lawyers in America®. The National Center for American Indian Economic Development recognized Alexander with its “40 Under 40” Award in 2023.
