Overview

Justin Misleh is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on foreign and domestic patent prosecution and counseling, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence in a broad range of technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, image analysis and recognition, automotive, Fintech, medical and surgical devices, and computer vision. He represents a variety of clients, from academic institutions to cutting-edge startups to world-renowned innovator brands.

With a background as a Primary Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Mr. Misleh supports his clients in protecting their inventions through robust portfolio-building strategies as well as market protection and dispute avoidance analyses, including preparing non-infringement and invalidity opinions. Mr. Misleh also provides litigation support and assists clients in post-grant proceedings, such as inter partes reviews and reexaminations.

While working at the USPTO, Mr. Misleh was selected as an Acting Supervisory Patent Examiner and served as an Administrative Patent Judge Clerk at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and as an assistant to Quality Assurance Specialists. He has trained and mentored numerous Patent Examiners over the course of his career, including assisting the Patent Training Academy in training onboarding Patent Examiners. Mr. Misleh was also deemed to be an expert in imaging and related technologies by USPTO management.

Mr. Misleh’s exceptional work at the USPTO was recognized with numerous Gainsharing, Special Achievement, and Docket Management Awards, and he is a recipient of the USPTO’s Bronze Medal Award, the highest honorary award granted by the USPTO for superior performance, as recognition for his outstanding and significant contributions to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of patent operations.

In 2023, Mr. Misleh was named to the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, which recognizes the contributions of those D.C. Bar members who donated 50 hours or more of pro bono service during the previous calendar year.
