Insights: News Kilpatrick and HMB Join Forces in Chicago
Combination Brings Together Leading Attorneys with Business & Finance, M&A, Litigation & Bankruptcy, Real Estate, State and Local Tax, and Private Client and Wealth Management Expertise
ATLANTA/CHICAGO (January 10) – Kilpatrick and HMB Legal Counsel announced today that the two firms are joining forces to significantly increase the combined firm’s presence and corporate-focused practice in Chicago. With the addition of over 55 attorneys from HMB, the Kilpatrick Chicago office will now total more than 70 attorneys.
The team joining from HMB brings well-established practices from a firm with a rich history of serving the Chicago business community. Together, these attorneys have represented leading entities and individuals for five decades across a variety of corporate-focused practice areas, including: Business & Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions, Litigation & Bankruptcy, Real Estate, State and Local Tax, and Private Client and Wealth Management.
“HMB is an exceptional law firm of outstanding lawyers and professionals with sophisticated practices. Their client focused and collaborative culture is an excellent fit with us, and we are excited to integrate their legal expertise in a number of key areas,” said Henry Walker, Kilpatrick Chair and CEO. “HMB’s corporate and private equity practices significantly enhance the depth and breadth of Kilpatrick’s Corporate Department, particularly our Mergers & Acquisitions practice area and expand our capabilities in one of the nation’s key financial and innovation hubs. HMB’s corporate clients will also be able to work closely with the firm’s internationally acclaimed intellectual property and litigation practices to protect their most valuable assets, resolve conflicts, and achieve their business goals.”
The combination, which is effective March 1, 2024, will now make the Chicago office, which was launched in March 2023, one of the firm’s largest.
“Kilpatrick is one of the nation’s preeminent law firms and its national platform and proven track record in the intellectual property, litigation, and corporate arenas will enable us to expand our existing client relationships and forge new ones,” said Jeffrey Hechtman, HMB Managing Partner. “While we were obviously impressed by Kilpatrick’s 164 years of legal prowess, a large part of what drew us to Kilpatrick was its similar culture of collaboration and collegiality and its commitment to developing strong and enduring relationships with its clients.”
“I am really pleased to welcome the HMB team to Kilpatrick,” said Jerry Haberkorn, Kilpatrick's Chicago Office Managing Partner. “HMB has a well-earned reputation in the Chicago market for outstanding legal work and superior client service. I look forward to helping lead and grow the Chicago office.”
Kilpatrick’s Chicago office will be located at 500 West Madison Street following the closing.
