Overview

Jamey Goldin represents and counsels clients in a wide range of issues associated with regulatory, compliance, litigation, transactional, administrative, government relations, and policy matters impacting the energy industry and other heavily regulated industries. In addition, he has represented and counseled clients in proceedings before state public utility commissions, federal regulatory agencies, the South Carolina Supreme Court, other levels of state and federal trial and appellate courts, the state insurance departments, and other federal and state branches of government. Jamey is registered as a lobbyist representing clients before the South Carolina General Assembly.

Prior to joining the firm, Jamey was a partner in the Charleston, Columbia, and Washington, D.C. offices of a national law firm where he concentrated his practice on energy and government relations and represented clients in regulatory, administrative, and government relations matters. He represented clients in the energy, environmental, infrastructure, healthcare, insurance, and local government sectors. Jamey was also Energy Regulatory Counsel for Eastern North America for a well-known multinational technology corporation as part of its Global Energy Markets and Policy Team.

Upon graduation from law school, Jamey served in various legal counsel roles throughout his seven-year tenure with the South Carolina House of Representatives including three years as Chief Legal Counsel and Chief of Staff for the South Carolina House of Representatives Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee and the South Carolina Public Utilities Review Committee.

Jamey was recognized as a South Carolina “Rising Star” in 2024 for Energy & Natural Resources and Legislative & Governmental Affairs by Super Lawyers magazine. He was honored as a “Legal Elite of the Lowcountry” in 2022 and 2023 for Government Law and Energy Law by Charleston Business Monthly.

Energy

Serves as External Regulatory Counsel to one of the largest public electric and water authorities in the United States.

Advises and represents large industrial customers, power suppliers, transmission operators, and other load serving entities on transactions and matters in various electricity markets, regional transmission organizations, and numerous balancing authorities in both the US and Canada including those involving the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), PJM Interconnection (PJM), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and ISO New England.

Previously represented, counseled, and advised one of the largest global buyers of renewable energy in rate cases, resource planning dockets, wholesale transmission and electric power proceedings brought pursuant to The Federal Power Act (FPA) (16 U.S.C. §§ 791 et seq.), and other matters before numerous state public utility commissions and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Routinely represent commercial and industrial customers, independent power producers, generators of electric power, publicly traded telecom providers, and industrial customer associations in matters before the South Carolina Public Service Commission (SCPSC) and in various other states’ commissions.

Construction and Infrastructure

Counseled publicly traded E-Commerce automobile retailer in expansion into South Carolina and represented the company in the regulatory approval process.

Represented clients before all levels of state trial and appellate courts in South Carolina as well as in matters in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

Represents load serving entities, transmission operators, power producers, and large industrial energy customers in their respective energy supply agreement and ancillary contract negotiations surrounding electric and gas service.

Financial Services

Serves as South Carolina Retained Counsel and Lobbyist for large provider of numerous lines of property and casualty insurance.

Routinely represents admitted insurers, surplus lines insurers, and other insurance industry market participants in matters before the South Carolina Department of Insurance.

Counsel to local government in tax collection and allocation programs.
