Overview

Brett Mellor focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the fields of electronics and software. Dr. Mellor’s areas of expertise include analog and digital circuits, computer architecture, computer engineering, processor design, wireless communications systems, antennas, GPS receivers, signal and image processing, optics and optoelectronics, sensors, instrumentation, solar photovoltaic devices, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer vision, and AR/VR/MR systems.

While attending Brigham Young University, Dr. Mellor’s Ph.D. research was focused on developing electrical circuits capable of detecting the presence of biological objects in liquids. His publications were recognized by the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Fellowship Award and the BYU Graduate Fellowship Award. Dr. Mellor’s research on electrical biosensors has been widely cited and presented at numerous conferences in the United States and Europe.

Dr. Mellor worked with the firm as a summer associate in 2014. While attending law school, he served as a staff member of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology.

Dr. Mellor was recognized in 2025 as one of the "Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch" for Patent Law by The Best Lawyers in America®. He was recognizedin 2024 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for providing at least 50 hours of pro bono time to the Mi Casa Resource Center.

Dr. Mellor is conversational in Portuguese and Spanish.
