Insights: News Kilpatrick Names Sean Auton Co-Managing Partner of Firm's Growing Chicago Office

Sean Auton Joins Jerry Haberkorn in Leading
One of the Firm’s Largest Offices

CHICAGO (March 5) – Kilpatrick announced today that effective March 1, 2024, Sean Auton is the Chicago Office Co-Managing Partner with Jerry Haberkorn who has served in the role of Chicago Office Managing Partner since March 1, 2023.

Mr. Auton was entering his 17th year practicing with HMB Legal Counsel when HMB and Kilpatrick announced they were joining forces earlier this year. Mr. Haberkorn has led Kilpatrick’s Chicago Office since Kilpatrick launched in the Windy City last March when the firm added a total of 28 legal professionals, including 14 attorneys, from L&G Law Group. Formerly, he was L&G’s long-time Managing Partner.

Prior to the combination with Kilpatrick, Jeffrey Hechtman served as the firm Managing Partner for HMB. Mr. Hechtman, now a partner with Kilpatrick, decided to step back from his management duties and focus on his fulltime practice.

“I welcome Sean and all our new colleagues in Chicago to Kilpatrick,” said Jerry Haberkorn, Chicago Office Co-Managing Partner. “His collaborative approach to leadership meshes perfectly with how I lead. We will make a great team as we seek to bring the best and brightest to Kilpatrick to continue the firm’s focus of providing unparalleled client service in Chicago, the Midwest, and beyond.”

The combination with HMB, which was effective March 1, 2024, makes the office one of the firm’s largest with over 70 attorneys.

“I look forward to joining Jerry as Co-Managing Partner of the Chicago office,” said Sean Auton. “He is an exceptional leader and has been an incredible resource, helping to create a seamless transition for HMB attorneys, professional staff and clients as we became part of Kilpatrick. I am excited to work with Jerry to grow our presence in Chicago.“

Mr. Auton concentrates his practice on general counsel, commercial leasing, and transaction matters, predominately serving high-growth companies, ranging from start-ups to more established entities. He is known for his counselor-style approach to delivering legal services, from representing transactional needs, such as contracts and agreements, to offering the big picture advice that helps clients accomplish their goals. Mr. Auton has considerable experience helping business leaders find and create the optimal structures to operate their businesses, whether it is for the purpose of encouraging growth and investment or for taking advantage of tax law opportunities.

Mr. Haberkorn focuses his practice on general corporate law including the formation and maintenance of entities, contract negotiations, and the sale and acquisition of businesses and product lines. In addition, over the past 20 years, Mr. Haberkorn has handled a significant number of merger and acquisition related matters including alleged breach of representation and warranties claims, as well as fraud allegations. Earlier in his career, he maintained an active trial practice in state and federal courts throughout the U.S., including significant directors and officers litigation matters, such as breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and violations of state, corporate, and limited liability company laws.
