Jabeen Ahmad is a registered patent attorney who concentrates her practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology, and life sciences. Her legal and scientific experience helps her focus on bridging communication gaps, protecting ideas, and managing technology.
Jabeen’s legal experience includes providing legal research and litigation support in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina where she drafted discovery requests, motions, and various other civil and criminal pleadings. She worked as a Licensing Intern and then a Licensing Analyst in the former Office of Commercialization and New Ventures at North Carolina State University where she researched and prepared prior art, freedom-to-operate, and patentability reports. She also prepared and executed various licensing, materials transfer, and non-disclosure agreements. Jabeen practiced as a Trial Attorney in the Children and Family Law Division of the Committee for Public Counsel Services in Hyannis, Massachusetts, where she advocated for indigent clients in child welfare, juvenile, and state intervention cases. She served as a Law Clerk in the U.S. Senate Office of the Legislative Counsel in Washington, D.C., where she drafted resolutions, bills, and amendments for senators and congressional committees.
While attending law school, Jabeen served as a Reference Assistant in the University of North Carolina School of Law Library where she guided patrons on research, resource location, and use of authoritative sources. She was Chief Articles and Notes Editor for the First Amendment Law Review and participated in the Holderness Moot Court - Environmental Negotiation Team, Craven Bench, and the Julius L. Chambers Civil Rights Appellate Advocacy Team. As a law student, she was recognized for providing more than 300 hours of pro bono service.
Jabeen’s research and teaching experience includes working as a Laboratory Assistant at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Nephropathology Lab and as a Research Technician, Biotechnology Teaching Assistant, and Graduate Researcher at North Carolina State University. While completing her doctoral degree, Jabeen was a Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) Fellow, a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Traineeship Fellow (AgBioFEWS), an AI2EAR Graduate Scholar, and a Fulbright Fellow. Her research focused on plant-microbial interactions, the wheat soil and root microbiome, gene drives, and biotechnology regulation. Her work is part of the North Carolina Plant Sciences Initiative, the Genetic Engineering and Society Center, and the Collaborative Crop Resilience Program, a Novo Nordisk funded international research collaboration.
Jabeen is fluent in Spanish, Urdu, and Hindi. She has a basic knowledge of Danish.
