Mr. Bergstrom has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patents in a wide range of technology areas. He has drafted patents for analog and digital circuit elements, microprocessor designs, wireless communications, autonomous sensor networks, computer security algorithms, low-power technologies, internet communications, and content delivery networks. Additionally, he has drafted and prosecuted patents covering computer animation, CGI character design, rendering engines, digital content creation and interfaces, and virtual/augmented reality environments. Additionally, he has prosecuted and developed comprehensive patent portfolios for various green energy solutions, including nuclear power generation, solar power generation, commercial power transmission and storage, hybrid and electric vehicles, battery electronics and battery charging systems, smart-home appliances and automation, environmental controllers, and fuel cell technology. Mr. Bergstrom also has considerable experience with patents in database programming, enterprise software, file systems, and custom drivers.

Aside from patent prosecution, Mr. Bergstrom supports litigation matters. He has drafted infringement contentions, invalidity contentions, and non-infringement opinions. He has also drafted several successful petitions for inter partes reviews (IPRs) as part of his litigation practice. He has also worked with a number of startup companies to develop IP strategies, rapidly prosecute key patents using accelerated examination and aggressive examiner interviewing, and license/sell portfolio assets during subsequent buyouts and acquisitions.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Bergstrom was an experienced electrical and computer engineer. He was a senior staff member at the Sandia National Laboratories where he led numerous weapon and counter-terrorism technology projects. These projects included experimental optics technologies, lasers, wireless sensor networks, security/safety systems, encryption, analog/digital circuit design, VLSI ASIC design and packaging, and database programming. He is an expert in every aspect of weapon technology and every phase of the design and engineering process. He also spent time in the United Kingdom working with weapon designers at the Atomic Weapon Establishment in Aldermaston. During graduate school, Mr. Bergstrom designed MS Windows applications to control industrial machines, and he was on the research staff of the Neural Microelectronics Lab at the University of Utah, where he invented a digital computer vision chip based on the biological vision system of the fruit fly for low-power motion detection adapted for human neural implants, a project funded by the U.S. Navy. He also taught computer science, electrical engineering, and digital design courses.

Mr. Bergstrom was recognized in 2024 as one of the "Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch" for Patent Law by The Best Lawyers in America®.
