James Bunts is a registered patent attorney who assists clients in securing and protecting their inventions and intellectual property. He drafts and prosecutes utility- and design-patent applications, performs comprehensive patentability search reports and analyses, conducts IP infringement analyses, and counsels clients on IP strategy. James has experience with a broad range of electrical, mechanical, and software technologies.
Prior to joining the firm, James worked as a patent attorney in the Seattle, Washington headquarters of a national law firm where he drafted and prosecuted U.S. utility and design patent applications for Fortune 50 companies. In particular, he has experience drafting U.S. and foreign patent applications and office action responses for inventions related to databases and data structures, cloud processing and storage systems, authentication systems, information security and cryptography, distributed ledger and blockchain systems, network technologies, digital imaging, computer vision, software for optimizing neural networks and GPU accelerations, and neural network training systems as well as various other software applications. Previously, James was a patent attorney at nationwide full-service patent and trademark prosecution firm where he drafted utility and design patent applications.
While attending law school, James served as a Court-Certified Student/Attorney for the Umpqua Valley Public Defender in Roseburg, Oregon. He also served as a Graduate Student Research Assistant and Executive Editor for the Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation.
