Betsy Hodges is a member of the firm’s Office of General Counsel and she is responsible for advising key stakeholders, including senior management and other internal clients, on firm issues related to ethics and conflicts analysis and resolution regarding potential new business intake and new and lateral attorney hires. With a keen awareness of risk management, Betsy develops related policies and procedures to ensure timely resolution of conflicts and ethical issues.
Betsy is an experienced attorney with a previous career in litigating, mediating, and arbitrating disputes, as well as providing ethics, professional responsibility and conflicts advice. She has handled cases from the demand letter stage to the conclusion of a dispute, including multiple appeals in the Georgia State and Federal Courts. As a former prosecutor at the State Bar of Georgia's Office of General Counsel, as well as serving on the Investigative and Review Panels of the State Disciplinary Board, Betsy has a unique and thorough understanding of the Rules of Professional Conduct. She has also represented attorneys charged with Bar Complaints and applicants for admission to the State Bar of Georgia.
Prior to joining the firm, Betsy was Conflicts Counsel and then Professional Responsibility and Ethics Counsel in the Atlanta, Georgia office of a national law firm. As Professional Responsibility and Ethics Counsel, she provided professional responsibility and ethics advice to the firm’s lawyers and analyzed U.S. and international conflicts of interest on a daily basis, drafted waiver language, reviewed Outside Counsel Guidelines and engagement letters, responded to subpoenas, and prepared ethical screen memoranda. As Conflicts Counsel, Betsy was part of a team that analyzed conflicts issues with respect to new clients, lateral hires, and new partners. She also handled gender affirming name change cases through Atlanta Legal Aid.
Betsy was honored in 2009 as recipient of the Award of Achievement for Outstanding Service to the Profession from The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the State Bar of Georgia.
