Expanding Your Horizons, 3rd Annual Gifted Synergy Symposium

Tuesday, November 15, 2016, marked the 3rd Annual Gifted Synergy Symposium. This year's theme was "Expanding Your Horizons." Students enrolled in Atlanta Public Schools' Gifted Mentorship course from Carver Early College, Douglass High School, Grady High School, Mays High School, North Atlanta High School, and Washington High School convened on the campus of the Lena Jean Campbell Building. Forty minute panel discussions with professionals from various career fields were moderated by APS central office staff. Students were allowed to ask questions in small group settings about issues pertaining to the panelists' career fields. Earlier in the semester Gifted Mentorship students participated in a YouScience Assessment to help expose them to careers best suited for their aptitude. A representative from YouScience walked students through their results and how to use them in completing resumes and cover letters. By the end of the symposium students were equipped with the necessary tips and skills to gain an internship.
