Our 2016 Seminar Series continues our tradition of having distinguished patent prosecution and litigation panelists discussing intellectual property issues relevant for Chinese companies conducting business in China and abroad.

Our speakers will discuss:

The Risk of Globalization: Entering the US market and Defending Against IP Claims (David Sipiora)

Mr. Sipiora, a nationally recognized IP trial attorney, will discuss the risks Chinese companies face when selling their products directly and indirectly into the United States. Mr. Sipiora will also cover strategies on how to avoid litigation, and how a foreign company should respond when it is threatened or sued by another company over IP rights.

Inventing Locally, Protecting Globally (Fei Shen)

Mr. Shen, an Electrical Engineer and Patent Attorney, will cover the best strategies to obtain IP protection for your discoveries. Mr. Shen will discuss best practices in determining what is patentable, development of defensive patent portfolios, and obtaining IP rights in foreign countries such as the U.S. and EU countries. Mr. Shen will also discuss proper budgeting for patent activities, and how to get the most out of your money.

Yes, You Can Keep A Secret (Ken Chang)

Mr. Chang, Office Managing Partner for Kilpatrick Townsend’s Shanghai office, will discuss Attorney-Client Privilege and the Work Product Doctrine, and how these privileges enable Chinese companies to have open, honest conversations about their activities without risk of disclosure. He will also discuss how best to communicate with your U.S. counsel about IP issues, and how to protect discussions of legal issues within your company.
