"Personal Interests and Strengths as Rainmaking Strategies," Women Legal 2017, February 2017.
Yes, there are alternatives to the “way it’s always been done.” In a largely male-dominated profession—where many senior partners have developed business by playing golf or taking their clients out for cigars and steaks—there also exists different, less obvious pathways to developing a book of business based on personal interests and strengths. This case study will shine a light on how one successful (female) partner developed a variety of thoughtful and distinctive ways to develop business—particularly with women in house counsel. From hosting book clubs and wine tastings to private dinners and teas, attendees will learn about the many creative ways this female Rainmaker opened up business dialogues relative to some of the year’s most popular business topics—including disruptive technology, managing change and leaning in. Women also invest heavily in developing personal relationships with clients—and in a manner that goes well beyond business lives. Attendees will learn how these strategies not only enable the development of a strong professional network, but also make it rain!
