"The Impact of the Trump Administration on Indian Policy," Panelist, 2017 Indian Law Conference, May 2017.
The executive branch of the United States government has extensive dealings with, and responsibilities to, both tribal governments and Native individuals. Each administration brings its own philosophies and priorities. So what does the Trump presidency mean for Native Americans? From EPA funding and the BIA’s strategy on fee-to-trust applications, to the privatization of oil-rich reservations and the long-lasting impact of Supreme Court appointments, there is a potential for tectonic shifts in matters affecting Indian country. This panel will discuss what tribes may expect out of this budding administration and how to best engage on the Federal level over the next four years.
