Insights: News Navajo Nation's Diné College Awarded 3rd Medical Patent
The School of STEM at Diné College has achieved another milestone with the issuance of its third U.S. patent, strengthening its position as the only Tribal College or University in the nation to hold patents.
The latest patent, granted on September 23, 2025, protects an innovative electrode design used to measure and record electrical signals from the body’s organs for diagnostic purposes. With a 100% success rate on patent applications, Diné College exceeds the national average and continues to advance its mission of innovation and community empowerment.
Associate Professor Oleksandr Makeyev credited strong partnerships for the success, including support from Kilpatrick partner Tyler McAllister, who helped guide the college through the patent process.
