In common speech and most dictionaries, the word “counterfeit” means an unauthorized copy of a genuine article. Reports of counterfeit drugs, food and beverages, airplane and automotive parts, and other goods that pose a serious threat to the public’s health and safety appear in the media with ever-increasing frequency.
