Ryan Fox focuses his practice on trademark clearance, global portfolio management, and trademark enforcement. Leveraging a blend of creativity and extensive experience, Ryan advises brands on the full spectrum of trademark matters, including ideation, clearance, prosecution, and enforcement. He has significant expertise in clearing titles and trademarks for film and television properties as well as technology services worldwide, frequently collaborating with local counsel to provide jurisdiction-specific guidance.
Ryan is committed to delivering clear, concise, and actionable advice tailored to each client’s needs, regardless of their familiarity with trademark law. He excels at providing legal counsel that is readily understood and implemented by both legal and non-legal stakeholders, ensuring that clients are equipped to make informed decisions across their organizations.
From November 2023 to August 2024, Ryan was seconded to a leading technology company renowned for its online communications and camera innovations. Following his secondment, he continues to serve as a part-time member of the company’s in-house legal team. In this capacity, Ryan regularly advises business stakeholders on trademark and copyright issues, collaborates directly with designers to review in-app creative content, and partners with the research department on cutting-edge technology projects. His in-house experience has developed his expertise in addressing intellectual property issues related to generative AI tools and products.
Ryan’s dedication and excellence have been recognized by his peers and the legal industry. He was named one of 2026’s “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” for Intellectual Property Law by The Best Lawyers in America®. He was honored as a Northern California “Rising Star” in 2021, and as a Washington D.C. “Rising Star” for Intellectual Property by Super Lawyers magazine in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Additionally, Ryan was named to the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll in both 2022 and 2023, in recognition of his commitment to providing more than 50 hours of pro bono service each year to the D.C. community.
Before attending law school, Ryan participated in the prestigious agent training program in the Motion Picture Literature Department at William Morris Endeavor in Beverly Hills, California. He later worked in feature film and television development and production at Kurtzman/Orci Productions in Universal City, California, and Twentieth Century Fox in Los Angeles, California.
