John Gutierrez is a litigator who focuses his practice on construction and infrastructure projects, alternative dispute resolution, and government contracting.
John has practical experience supporting owners, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in resolving a variety of construction-related issues on complex projects. For example, he has assisted in prosecuting and defending Texas mechanic’s and materialmen’s lien claims, as well as payment and performance bond disputes. With an appreciation for the financial pressures affecting the construction industry, John works closely with clients to identify their goals and priorities at various stages of the construction dispute process, particularly in prelitigation and discovery matters. His experience includes but is not limited to reviewing construction-related project documents, conducting legal research, and supporting case preparation for matters in state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution forums.
While attending law school, John worked with the firm as a summer associate in 2023 where he conducted in-depth legal research and analysis on construction-related issues, drafted various legal documents, and assisted with pro bono projects aimed at helping veterans.
Prior to launching his legal career, John served in the United States Air Force Reserves as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician. After he graduated from Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal in 2017, he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana where he was responsible for detecting, identifying, evaluating, and safely neutralizing explosive devices such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance. His unique military background equipped him with the ability to work in high-stress environments and to perform under pressure, making him an asset in high-stakes litigation.
John was recognized in 2026 as one of the "Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch" for Construction Law and Construction Litigation by The Best Lawyers in America®.
