Grant Wanderscheid focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling primarily in the areas of electronics, computer software and hardware, artificial intelligence, optoelectronics, and mobile communications. In addition to preparing and prosecuting patent applications, Grant advises clients on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and non-infringement opinions, helping them protect innovations and build patent portfolios aligned with their business objectives.
Grant has in-house experience guiding patent strategy during a secondment at a major interactive entertainment and consumer electronics company, giving him valuable insight into the intellectual property needs of technology organizations.
While attending Santa Clara University School of Law, Grant worked with the firm as a summer associate in 2021. He was awarded the 2021 Art Gemmell Prize for the best student paper in International Arbitration/ Alternative Dispute Resolution for his paper titled “Using WIPO as an Arbitration Institution.”
While attending Iowa State University, Grant was an Instructor for its Mobile Embedded Systems course where he designed and oversaw labs emphasizing sensor use and was a Mobile Application Developer where he created Android and iOS applications for farmers to track agricultural productivity. Grant also served as a Mobile Development intern at one of the United States' top property/casualty companies, a Software Development intern at a company that provides software solutions to the broadband and utility industries, and a Software Development intern at an information technology (IT) service provider.

AI-assisted analysis of a patent portfolio comprising thousands of patents, developing a categorization framework and ranking methodology to cost efficiently assess each asset by technology area and strategic value. The rankings were used to help the client prioritize prosecution decisions and to inform broader business decisions.
Non-infringement opinions for a leading interactive entertainment company
Prepared non-infringement opinions analyzing asserted patents against the client's products, supporting a favorable resolution of infringement allegations.
Invention harvesting for a global interactive entertainment company
Conducted invention harvesting workshops with client engineering and in-house legal teams, identifying and evaluating patentable subject matter and delivering filing recommendations.
Ex parte appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board
Prepared appeal briefs, reply briefs, and pre-appeal brief requests for review in patent applications spanning augmented reality, retail technology, blockchain, connected devices, and materials science.
Patent portfolio analysis following a technology acquisition
Reviewed patents acquired in a corporate acquisition and prepared summaries characterizing each asset to support the client's integration and portfolio management decisions.
