Insights: Events Recent Trends in The Food and Wine Industry and Their Legal Implications

With plant-based meats recent rise in popularity, this session will discuss science and law behind novel foods and beverages. Short presentations will address how alternative meats are made, their patentability and patent trends, trademark protection, labeling and geographic origin requirements for new foods and wines, and what investors look for when investing in innovative food products. The presentations will be followed by a panel in which the speakers discuss the different types of alternative meat, how branding issues can be overcome, what steps to take when states like Missouri criminalize labeling products “meat” if they do not arise from livestock or poultry, and other new ideas such as wine infused with CBD.
